VFW, VHG Set To Launch Social Security Disability Eligibility Screener

The Social Security Disability process can be frustrating for many veterans. Applicants are unable to work a typical job, yet they have numerous hoops to jump through in order to get approved for any sort of benefits. And there’s no partial disability process available — a person is either deemed disabled or not.
The good news is that help is available for disabled veterans. Veterans Help Group (VHG), a team of VA-accredited advocates, has partnered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) to launch a new Social Security Disability Eligibility Screener. This innovative online tool is designed to simplify the process for veterans to determine their eligibility for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
The screener addresses the unique challenges veterans often face when navigating the complex world of disability benefits. By combining VHG’s in-depth knowledge of SSDI with VFW’s extensive reach and commitment to veteran support, the two organizations aim to provide a user-friendly, accessible way for veterans to explore a benefit that is frequently misunderstood.
Featuring an intuitive online interface, the tool guides veterans through a series of questions tailored to the SSDI process, offering clarity and direction.
The screener became available to VFW members nationwide in April 2025. To support the rollout, educational workshops are being planned to increase awareness and usage. Veterans and their families are encouraged to reach out to their local Veteran Service Officer for more information.
The VFW is dedicated to supporting veterans at every step of their journey. Through this collaboration with Veterans Help Group, veterans are given the information they need to pursue Social Security disability benefits, ultimately improving their financial well-being and quality of life.
Veterans are often unaware of how SSDI can complement their VA compensation. Many don’t even realize they qualify for both programs. The VFW’s leadership is taking steps to help close that knowledge gap. The VFW is the nation’s largest and most established combat veterans organization. It’s a non-profit veterans service organization dedicated to supporting veterans, service members, and their families through various programs and advocacy efforts.
Veterans Help Group was founded by experienced veterans disability experts who have been representing disabled vets for more than 15 years. They have representatives across the country to assist veterans.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) also offers the Benefit Eligibility Screening Tool (BEST) to find out if you could get Social Security benefits. Answer the question and see which benefits you might be eligible for. You can also receive information about how to qualify and apply.
